French flavor firm Aromatech has started operations at its new US subsidiary, which the company believes will allow it better access to its customer base in the country.

Aromatech in June announced the launch of its first US subsidiary, which the firm last week said is now fully operational.

Located in Orlando, Florida, the facility includes a research and development lab, and will handle all technical documentation, sampling, application and product adaptation for customers in the region.

The US was already a large market for the flavor group, representing around 20 percent of its overall exports.

However, according to the firm, establishing a physical presence in the country was essential for its business development and customer relations.

Aromatech said that having a local presence would improve its capabilities to develop flavors and solutions tailored to local tastes.

The new facility, which is the firm's sixth subsidiary abroad, will coordinate all of the company's flavor projects for customers in North, South and Central America.

Aromatech USA develops and commercializes flavors for a range of applications, including drinks, dairy products, confectionery, snacks, baked goods, diet products and health-positioned products.

It said its flavors are available in liquid, powder and emulsion forms. The firm produces 'natural', 'artificial', 'natural and artificial' and 'organic' flavors.

The company said all its flavors abide by local regulations.

Earlier this year, the French firm expanded into the superfruit market, with the development of a new range of flavors that it said combines a popular taste trend with antioxidants and a connotation of health.

The range includes acai flavor, pomegranate, cranberry, blueberry, acerola, goji and mangosteen.
