Quinoa is increasingly being touted for gluten-free applications, and is now being offered in whole seed or powder form for use in breads, pastas, cereals by the Californian company. The ‘ancient’ grain is said to be rich in protein, fiber, and micronutrients like iron and folate.
The company has also added the antioxidant-rich, dark-purple berry maqui to its product line. Available as a powder, the ingredient is intended for dietary supplements.
“As consumers continue seeking products to meet their specialized health needs, such as gluten-free and antioxidant-rich diets, manufacturers can turn to BI for high-quality ingredients such as quinoa and the maqui berry to use in new product innovations,” said George Pontiakos, president and CEO of BI Nutraceuticals.
