Campbell Soup Co has opened a new $30m, 34,000-square-foot innovation center at its Pepperidge Farm HQ in Norwalk, Connecticut.

The center is designed to boost innovation in Campbell’s $2.19bn global baking and snacking portfolio, its second-largest reporting segment (Pepperidge Farm in the US and Arnott’s Biscuits in Australia), said CEO Denise Morrison.

“This new building is a visible recognition of Pepperidge Farm's long history of successful innovation, as well as our commitment to delivering the next generation of new products for consumers.”

The LEED-certified center houses a state-of-the-art pilot plant with product development and testing lines, a culinary demonstration kitchen, laboratories and meeting rooms.

An extension of Pepperidge Farm’s HQ, the center connects to the main building by a glass enclosed internal walkway, which allows viewing of the research floor.

Pepperidge Farm - which employs almost 5,000 staff and operates nine factories - is a leading provider of fresh bakery products, cookies, crackers, and frozen foods with a portfolio of brands including Sausalito, Milano, Goldfish and Baked Naturals.
