The food processing sector is to play a key role in contributing to Canada’s economic recovery, said the country’s agriculture minister yesterday.

Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), made the statement as he met with 50 representatives from the Canadian food processing sector in Ottawa.

The Minister pledged to finish a food processing action plan by the end of the year “that responds to the sector’s needs”.

"This Government understands that the economic recovery of our country depends on the stability and performance of sectors such as food processing," said Blackburn. "This is why we are committed to continuing our hard work to guarantee the success of this sector."
