The deal follows PepsiCo’s recent acquisition of Dilexis, a traditional manufacturer of cookies and crackers in Argentina, and will add the Mabel, Elbi's, Kelly and Skiny brands to PepsiCo’s stable, said John Compton, chief executive of PepsiCo Americas Foods and Global Snacks Group.

“Brazil is an extremely important market for PepsiCo and this acquisition well positions us in a key segment in the snack category there.”

Mabel, which sells more than 200 cookie, cracker and wafer products, has five manufacturing plants in Brazil and the capacity to produce more than a million cookie packages a day.

The transaction is subject to a post-closing review by Brazil's Council for Economic Defense.
