Campbell Soup Company said it aims to cut salt in around 80 per cent of its Pepperidge Farm range of breads, rolls and bagels by early next year.

The US company said that some 69 varieties of these products will be at least 25 per cent lower in salt by February 2011.

Campbell said it has reduced salt across its portfolio, including many of its soups and in the the entire lines of its V8 juices, Prego Italian sauces and SpaghettiOs pastas.

It said that it now manufactures more than 200 reduced salt products, which represents an eight-fold increase compared to just five years ago, when the company offered 25 such lines.
