SunOpta has announced that it will begin commissioning a soy processing and aseptic packaging plant in Californian this month, in order to begin commercial production by the end of 2009’s second quarter.

The company claims that when the production capacity of the new Modesto, California plant is added to capacity at its existing Alexandria, Minnesota packaging facility, it expects to bring total annual production capacity to 250 to 300 million quarts of organic soy milk.

SunOpta has said that it expects the new plant to add $15m to $20m to its annual revenue.

The company said that the facility will provide “proprietary organic aseptic soymilk for an international food service restaurant company” but refrained from naming the company.
