A web portal with over 20,000 beet recipes has accused President Obama of “relegating beets to the joke mill occupied until now by George H.W. Bush’s uneaten broccoli crowns.”

According to the site, President Obama has been reported as saying: “I always avoid eating them” – a statement which FoodieView’s founder Howie Wang said should be tackled by the White House chef.

“Cristeta Comerford can easily rectify this situation with tasty recipes that give beets of all colors the credit they deserve,” said Wang.

FoodieView has said that the beet has been “mistakenly maligned” and offered recipe ideas like beet Bundt cake, Moroccan beet salad and beet ravioli as possible ways to beat Obama’s beet aversion.
