The Obama administration’s choice for chief agricultural negotiator at the stalled Doha talks has defended himself against accusations that he is a “pro-pesticide lobbyist” in a Senate Finance Committee hearing.
More than 80 action groups united against Islam Siddiqui – who is vice president of science and regulatory affairs at CropLife – saying that he would serve the interests of big agribusiness over those of organic and small farms.
However, Reuters quoted Siddiqui as saying at the hearing: “There is no evidence in my public service of 32 years where I made any disparaging remarks against organic or sustainable development.”
