The USA Rice Federation has been talking up the green credentials of American rice, claiming that it helps sustain wildlife, conserves water and reduces the nation’s carbon footprint.

Founder of Field to Plate, a Maryland-based nutritional education company, Amanda Archibald said that American rice farmers help create and preserve wetlands.

“Wetlands provide valuable habitat for wildlife, making US-grown rice not just a nutritious choice, but one that can also contribute to a healthy and balanced ecosystem,” she said.

The USA Rice Federation says that about 85 percent of US-consumed rice is US-grown.
