TreeHouse Foods to acquire mayo, dressings and sauces maker Cains Foods in $35m deal

Private label specialist TreeHouse Foods has struck a deal to acquire Cains Foods, a privately owned manufacturer of shelf stable mayonnaise, dressings and sauces, based in Ayer, Massachusetts, for $35m.

Cains Foods, which has an annual revenue of around $80m and employs around 100 staff, supplies the retail and foodservice market with products sold under private label store brands and the Cains, Naturally Delicious and Olde Cape Cod brands.

Its facilities include a fully-owned food processing plant and a leased distribution facility in Ayer.

The deal is expected to close within 30 days and will be financed through borrowings under TreeHouse's existing $750m credit facility.

"Cains has a nearly 100 year tradition of manufacturing high quality products, and this is a very good business with experienced management and a dedicated team of employees," said TreeHouse CEO Sam K. Reed.

"Cains will be a great fit within the TreeHouse family, rounding out our industry leading assortment of private label pourable and spoonable dressings."

it must me nice that the same week treehouse buys cains foods it is closeing another plan in ontario canada. the canadian plant makes the same products as cain and they do it very well but the only difference is that it was a canadian plant and they can make it cheaper in the USA. well i wish cain employies the best of luck because as soon as treehouse gets there ducks all lined up you too will be out of a job.
