23% of US households own a coffee pod machine, NPD Group
Almost a quarter (23%) of US households now own a coffee pod machine, according to NPD Group’s annual national ‘Kitchen Audit’ of 2,700 US households.

However, they are not ditching their old coffeemakers, with 55% of households with pod machines also owning an electric drip coffeemaker.

Other findings of the 2014 kitchen audit include:

  • 16% of households with a homemaker under the age of 35 have the Asian hot sauce Sriracha in their kitchen cupboards compared with 9% of total households.
  • 53% of cooks who consider their cooking skills ‘excellent’ use a recipe once or more a week; compared with 14% of those who consider their cooking skills ‘fair’.
  • 4% of households own a soda maker, but that increases to almost 10% in households with any children under the age of six.
