Only a third (34 percent) of Americans eat breakfast every day, although 54 percent say they would like to, according to a Kellogg Company survey of 14,000 Americans.

Pediatrician and author Dr. Laura Jana said: "Without a healthy breakfast, we simply are not as likely to function at our best…Making sure that children from a very young age are in the habit of eating a healthy breakfast can significantly help improve their overall health and well-being.”

The poll found that nearly all toddlers and preschool-age children eat breakfast each day, but consumption falls as US children grow older. Only 36 percent of high school students eat breakfast every day, as do 50 percent of middle-school students and 77 percent of young children.
