The CDC has confirmed that 18 people have died and a further 100 people have become infected as a result of contaminated Jensen Farms Rocky Ford cantaloupes.
The four strains of listeria monocytogenes bacteria associated with Jensen Farms cantaloupes have been reported in 20 states across the US.
Jensen Farms began a voluntary recall of its Rocky Ford brand cantaloupes on the 14th September after being originally linked with the outbreak.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has attempted to reduce further listeria contamination concerns after the voluntary recall of True Leaf Farm romaine lettuces.
No related illnesses have been reported and the FDA have stressed there is no link between the recalled lettuces and contaminated cantaloupes.
