Whole Foods CEO: ‘click and collect’ model may be best solution for food retailers

With Millenials due to control about 30% of food retail sales by 2020, the ‘click and collect’ model of ordering food online and then picking it up at stores may be the best solution for food retailers, says the co-CEO of Whole Foods.

Speaking at the United Fresh Produce Association (UFPA) convention in San Diego this week, Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods, said that the retailer is currently exploring the possibilities of ‘click and collect’, given the importance of technology for this demographic, reports The Produce News .

But it’s not all about Millenials, he said, and retailers will also have to cater for Generation Xers and baby boomers.

Robb also spoke to attendees about “stunning data” that fruit and vegetable consumption has remained constant over the last several years.
