Indian and Chilian suppliers sign bioactives pact

24-Mar-2009

Indian supplier, Avesthagen, has teamed up with Uxmal, a Chilean biotech firm, to commercialise nutrients derived from South American plants in functional foods and other healthcare products.

Avesthagen has established a subsidiary called Avesthagen Latam at the Venture Lab of the Business School at the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez in Penanlolen in Chile’s capital, Santiago. The two companies will work on developing bioactives and tissue culture.

"We intend to use our domain expertise and knowledge base in furthering research and development related activities for the development of technology and products in agriculture, pharma and food business internationally," said Avesthagen’s Dr Villoo Moarawala Patel.

Avesthagen supplies ingredients such as amla, or the Indian gooseberry, which is marketed on enhanced levels of antioxidants.
