Chobani is opening a food incubator in New York City designed to help entrepreneurial food companies “launch and disrupt their respective categories”.

The Chobani Incubator will include a commercial kitchen and office space, while entrepreneurs that impress the Greek yogurt company will get the opportunity to spend six months working with its leadership team, attending classes, following training programs and gaining access to leading chefs and food industry executives.

“Today we’re opening our doors to entrepreneurs who share our vision for better food for tomorrow—food that’s natural and affordable,” said Chobani founder & CEO Hamdi Ulukaya.

“Making a product the right way is not always easy, but we’ve proven that the model works. I’m excited to work with entrepreneurs who share our goal and who can benefit from our experience.”

The incubator program will culminate in a demo day where each company will have the opportunity to present to leading food distributors and retailers.

Chobani will open the call for pitches from interested entrepreneurs in December, and will select up to 10 companies to join the first round.

Asked if Chobani will help put the entrepreneurs in touch with potential angel investors or other financial backers, or if Chobani may invest in the companies directly, a spokesman told FoodNavigator-USA: "Both are options."

Asked if the commercial kitchen will be a place where companies can manufacture small batches of product for sale, or will be more of a test kitchen, he added: "It will largely depend on the product."
