Conclusions from a 2007 World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) report have been challenged by an editorial by French researchers in the Annals of Oncology.
The WCRF report warned against consuming more than 18 oz of red meat per week, and added that there was no safe level of processed meat consumption. The French researchers criticized the report’s focus on individual foods as opposed to dietary patterns, and for not highlighting the dangers of smoking.
The American Meat Institute, a trade body, welcomed the editorial.
