USDA sets sugar marketing allotment for 2012

22-Aug-2011

The Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set its initial sugar marketing allotment for fiscal 2012.

It set the overall sugar marketing allotment at 9,456,250 short tons raw value (STRV), equal to 85 percent of sugar production for food use, as estimated in the July World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates.

The CCC split the allotment between beet and cane sugar, with beet sugar accounting for 54.3 percent of the quota (5,139,472 STRV) and cane sugar allotted 45.7 percent (4,316,778 STRV).

The total 2011-12 quota is a slight increase on the 9,235,250 tons initially allocated for the current year, ending September 30, 2011.
