Reasons for this include soaring rates of obesity and an aging population, both of which are risk factors for type-2 diabetes, wrote the researchers, from the University of Chicago. At the moment, they said there are 19.5m diagnosed cases of diabetes in the US, with another 4.25m undiagnosed cases.
“We project that over the next 25 years, the number of
Americans with diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes will increase from 23.7 million to 44.1 million,” they wrote.
