ConAgra reduces sodium in Healthy Choice soups

29-Sep-2010

ConAgra Foods has reformulated its two most popular Healthy Choice brand soups to contain 15 percent less sodium, the company has said.

Both its Chicken Noodle and Chicken with Rice varieties will have 390mg of sodium per one-cup serving compared to 460mg, the company said, and it is also introducing three new varieties containing 390mg of sodium per serving: Cheese Tortellini, Red Beans & Rice, and a reformulated Tomato Basil.

Vice president of research, quality and innovation at ConAgra Foods Jane Anders said: "The entire line of Healthy Choice soup has always met the government guideline for 'healthy' sodium levels, which is a maximum of 480 milligrams per serving, and the five new soups contain about 20 percent less than this amount.”

In October 2009, ConAgra Foods pledged to reduce sodium by 20 percent across its product portfolio by 2015.
