Glanbia Nutritionals has launched a new flax protein powder for protein fortification for use in a range of applications including bars, clusters, cereals and beverages.
“Flax is currently experiencing huge interest thanks to its numerous health benefits and superfood status,” said Marilyn Stieve, business development manager – flax, at Glanbia Nutritionals.
“LinPro 140 offers all the nutritional value of flax in a completely natural product that meets manufacturer demand for high quality protein, fiber and omega-3s, as well as maintaining the desired sensory properties.
“Our flax protein powder fraction is concentrated through mechanical, rather than chemical, processes and is non-GMO and hormone-free, making LinPro 140 even more appealing to the health-conscious consumer.”
The ingredient, which is being launched in the USA only initially, has a low Glycemic Index and delivers a PDCAAS value of 0.68 and 38-40% protein content, said the company. Furthermore, this protein fortification ingredient is also vegetarian, GMO-free, and contains 32% fiber.
According to Glanbia, the ingredient also offers a clean flavor profile and non-gritty mouthfeel. The powder’s excellent solubility makes it ideal for use in beverages, adding to the smooth mouthfeel in viscous products.
The ingredient is heat treated with Glanbia Nutritionals’ patented MicroSure Plus 5-log kill process, added the company. The validated treatment process is designed to provide safe flaxseed with a stable shelf life of two years.
