Plainview Milk Products Cooperative of Minnesota has issued a recall of all the instant nonfat dried milk, whey protein, fruit stabilizers, and gums that it has manufactured over the past two years, due to possible salmonella contamination.
The US Department of Agriculture found salmonella in 100g pouches of Dairyshake powder that were not for retail sale and notified the FDA. During its investigation, the FDA discovered salmonella-tainted machinery at the Plainview plant where one of the products main ingredients was sourced.
Plainview has stopped production and notified its customers, who are food and beverage manufacturers, rather than the public. The FDA has said that it is not currently aware of any products containing the ingredients being recalled at the consumer level.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said that there are no known illnesses resulting from the contamination at this time.
