Ancient Nutrition makes bone broth more convenient as protein powder

Ancient Nutrition takes the burgeoning bone broth category in a new direction by bringing it into the well established and wildly successful protein powder segment with the creation of a more versatile Bone Broth Protein powder.

The company's line of powdered Bone Broth Protein, launched in May, offers consumers a level of ease and convenience that they cannot find with the liquid bone broth found in the fresh, frozen and shelf-stable sections of stores.

Rather than being limited to slowly sipping the broth or adding it to soups, Ancient Nutrition's powdered Bone Broth Protein powder also can be baked into "healthy desserts," blended into protein bars snacks and added to smoothies in a way that liquids cannot easily be.

The powder also travels more easily than large pouches or cartons of broth, allowing consumers to add a scoop to water or other liquid in a shaker at the gym, on a plane or at the office, according to the company.

This versatility and convenience more directly meets today's on-the-go consumes' needs than the liquid alternatives, the company claims and as such embodies the its mission "to restore our health, strength and vitality by providing history's healthiest whole food nutrients to the modern world."

Protein & collagen packed

The company touts the health benefits of the powders, noting that each serving packs 20 grams of protein that Ancient Nutrition claims is easier to digest than many other protein powders for sale.

In marketing materials it explains: "For many people protein powders can be difficult to digest. For those with dairy or egg sensitivities, whey, casein and egg white protein can cause digestive and other issues, as can brown rice and pea protein for those who don't digest grains and legumes well."

In addition to the protein, the products claim to have higher levels of type 2 collagen to support gut and skin health as well as the immune system. It also contains many essential minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, selenium, gylcosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine and chondroitin, according to marketing materials.

A less expensive alternative to liquid bone broth

The product also likely will appeal to modern consumers who want a healthy diet and a healthy bank account by costing roughly half the sale price of liquid bone broth. According to the company, liquid bone broth sold at farmers' markets and in retail stores costs on average $5.50 per serving compared to $2.25 per serving of Ancient Nutrition's product.

The core line, which launched in May, includes eight flavors: Pure, Chocolate, Vanilla, Mobilizing Turmeric, Greens Alkalizing, Coffee, Cinnamon Apple and Banana Creme.

The company also is in the process of rolling out 16 new products in the fitness, meal replacement, pre-workout, fit and thermo categories, a company spokesman told FoodNavigator-USA at SOHO Expo in Florida in December.

As with the core line, the new products will be free from artificial ingredients, GMOs, gluten, dairy, soy, grains and nuts, he said, adding in March the company also will offer a full organic line.
