FoodFutureCo unveils 2017 cohort: 'It isn’t enough to have a great concept; consumers, retailers and investors are looking for companies with a higher purpose'

FoodFutureCo - a food business accelerator program targeting mission-driven companies in scale-up mode – has unveiled its second cohort, spanning spring water, local produce, kids’ snacks and fermented foods. 

The cohort, selected from 215 applications, comprises:

  • Generation Fresh​ – Providing wholesome kids’ snacks to school districts and retailers.
  • Ozuké​ – Providing organic raw krauts and kim chi, produced in a zero-waste facility.
  • Unify Water​ – Providing spring water bottled directly at the source in Tennessee.

Led by Plum Organics founder Gigi Lee Chang, FoodFutureCo ​deals with companies that are already established, but need money and expertise to get to the next level.

These companies not only have great products and brands/branding, but a mission that is changing the future of our food system," ​said Lee Chang. “It isn’t enough these days to have a great concept — consumers, retailers and investors are looking for companies with a higher purpose.”

The accelerator – which typically looks to take a 6-8% equity stake in participating businesses - has two cohorts per year, with each program running for five months.

Participants get intensive coaching in all areas required for running and scaling up a business, as well as mentoring from a team of seasoned food & beverage entrepreneurs, investors and strategists​.
