Traffic lights: Stop and consider, proceed with caution, or go go go?
There are many variations of the traffic light scheme developed by the UK Food Standards Agency, which awards a red, amber or green label for fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar according to whether the product in question has low, medium or high amounts of these nutrients of concern per 100g.
While the system has been adopted in some shape or form by several leading UK retailers and manufacturers, it has also proved highly controversial, and does not have the support of the UK Food and Drink Federation or the nation's biggest food retailer, Tesco.
