FSMA: Why are we waiting?
Last but not least, we turn to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), large chunks of which the FDA has yet to spell out, missing a series of deadlines in January and the summer, although experts now expect a flurry of activity in late January 2013.
But such delays did not, however, mean that the industry was able to rest on its laurels in 2012, with the FDA making it clear that it will take action where necessary, as evidenced by its decision to suspend the food facility registration of Sunland Inc. after its peanut butter was linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney.
