Uruguay eases Brazil pork export restrictions
According to the Brazilian Department for Agriculture, until recently only Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul were allowed to export pork to Uruguay.
However, in December 2012 the Directorate General of Livestock Services of Uruguay (DGSPU) approved the foot-and-mouth free states of Acre, Rondônia, São Paulo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Tocantins, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Bahia and Sergipe, and the Federal District for export.
Health certificates have now been negotiated and the DGSPU has published a resolution recognising that Brazil has implemented controls that guarantee the safety of its animals and animal products, the Brazilian ministry added.
