Global food co seeks novel approach to enhance sweetness, naturally
A leading food manufacturer is looking for partners to help it identify natural ways to enhance sweetness, perhaps by utilizing ‘waste’ materials from food processes such as fruit peel.

In a posting on the website NineSights, open innovation expert NineSigma says it is “representing a global food company” which “seeks proposals for effective sweetness enhancing solutions from natural sources, methods of identifying these substances as well as manufacturing options.”

Its target is to obtain a sugar reduction of 20-30%.

Of ‘primary interest’ to its client are materials with sweetness enhancing and modulating properties.

Of ‘secondary interest’ are materials with “sweetness properties (e.g. natural sweeteners substitute to sugar)”, says NineSigma

Meanwhile, “materials that are already used in food processes with currently no added value would be of particular interest (waste stream, sugar molasses, peels from fruits, etc)”.

Solutions already offered by flavor houses or natural sweeteners already employed in the industry (stevia etc) are not of interest.

Responses are due by April 22, 2013.
