Marcel Smits joins Cargill as CFO
Next we move to Cargill, which is welcoming former Sara Lee executive Marcel Smits to its team on April 15 as chief financial officer.
Smits held senior financial management positions at Unilever in the 1980s and 1990s, and served as CFO for Dutch retail group Vendex KBB and telecommunications service provider, before joining Sara Lee in 2009, where he served as CFO for two years before being promoted to the role of CEO in 2011.
Cargill's CFO position became vacant in November 2012 when Sergio Rial left the company to return to his native Brazil. Since then, the role has been filled on an interim basis by Cargill president and chief operating officer David MacLennan.
"Marcel Smits is a terrific addition to the Cargill leadership team. His global experience in financial management and the food industry will be a tremendous asset to the company," said Cargill chairman and CEO Greg Page.
