The European Commission has granted Brazilian company JBS regulatory approval to expand its company, with several new international acquisitions.

Meat company JBS has purchased six Brazilian companies that form the Seara Group and Columbus Netherlands BV (Zenda) from Marfrig Alimentos.

Seara rears chickens and pigs and produces chicken and pork products in Brazil, whereas Zenda produces leather for aircrafts, automotives, furniture and shoes.

The Commission, which regulates international competition in Europe, confirmed it would approve the deal without conditions because “the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns, in particular because the overlaps between the activities of JBS, Zenda and Seara are limited”.

In addition to producing beef, hides and cattle, JBS also produces and sells pork and poultry and will buy out 100% of Zenda’s shares. The deal was fast-tracked in Brussels.
