CoYo: The taste of paradise?
As expected, the coconut water giants were out in force at Expo West, with 36 firms flogging some form of it at the show.
However, another coconut-related product that caught our eye was CoYo, which is made from coconut cream (the crushed meat of the coconut) rather than coconut water or coconut milk (crushed coconut meat with water added).
While the calorie count and price point (390 calories in each $3.99 pot) make CoYo more of a treat than a daily indulgence, this dairy- and soy-free dessert is definitely one to watch.
Available in natural, mango, chocolate, and mixed berry flavors, CoYo has a thick texture somewhat akin to Greek yogurt - and tastes pretty amazing.
The product, which was launched in Australia four years ago and has since been rolled out to the UK and New Zealand, is now launching in the US.
While many coconut-based desserts are packed with ingredients consumers can't pronounce, said Chuck Waghorne and Ian Johnson, who have the exclusive license to produce and sell CoYo in the US - CoYo has just four ingredients: Coconut cream, stevia, tapioca starch and live cultures.
