Quark! Bored of Greek yogurt? Try this...
Another protein-packed product we tasted at the show was spoonable German-style fresh cheese Elli Quark.
The cheese, which has a mild taste and creamy texture, was developed by Preya Patel Bhakta, who launched it at Expo West last year and has since secured listings at stores in 35 states.
Elli Quark (pronounced 'kvark' in German) has less sugar than most yogurts and is also less tart (making it doesn't require lactic acid bacteria).
Each 5.3oz pot has 80-90 calories, zero fat, 14-17g protein, 5g sugar and 15% of the DV for calcium. Made from milk from cows not treated with rBST and free of added sugars, it is sweetened with fruit, erythritol and stevia.
