Authentic South Asian flavors…in a can
Zouq is a new line of portable snack mixes that aims to bridge global cultures through packaged food. The South Asian-inspired snack mixes are vegan, gluten-free, cholesterol-free and MSG-free and sold in recyclable grab-and-go cans.
The Zouq line comprises four varieties: Fiery Sticks: fried potato fingers tossed in a blend of Indian red chilies and granulated mango powder; Golden Lentils: lentils, sautéed in oil and seal salt; Jubilee Mix: a blend of chickpeas, green peas, cashews, cumin seeds and coriander; and Curry Crunch: a sweet and sour mix of rice flakes, chickpea flour, peanuts and turmeric powder.
Indeed, as the world has gotten smaller through the growth of social media and the internet, consumers seem to be seeking more nuanced, authentic cultural experiences as opposed to the broad “ethnic” food umbrella. This is evidenced in the focus on more regional ingredients and techniques into the flavor trendscape (see here , here and here).
