Ghirardelli mini line hits on convenience, portion control trends
To satisfy the needs for “on-the-go, guilt-free indulgence,” premium chocolate manufacturer Ghirardelli has launched minis—bite -sized, individually wrapped versions of its chocolate squares. Minis are half the size of a regular Ghirardelli square.
Available in three flavors, including milk chocolate caramel, milk chocolate almond & sea salt, and dark chocolate, minis will be sold in 4.3-4.6 oz. stand-up pouches at retailers starting May 15.

In January the campaign group Action on Sugar was formed to help the industry and governments achieve consensus on sugar reduction. The group is calling on the industry to reduce sugar by 30% over the next four years. For many confectioners, the easiest, most cost-efficient path has been through smaller portion sizes—though they don’t reduce the overall sugar percentage.
