Nasoya rolls out ready-to-eat TofuBaked
Leading tofu brand Nasoya is expanding its line of meatless offerings this summer with the launch of TofuBaked. Marinated and fully cooked, TofuBaked will be offered in Sesame Ginger and Teriyaki varieties. The line aims to take the work out of preparing tofu and is ready to eat either cold or heated. The line targets vegans, vegetarians, as well as the increasing amount of flexitarians looking for an easy way to decrease meat consumption a few times a week.
Tofu continues to confound many American consumers, though the category saw sales increase 1% in 2013 to reach $274 mn, according to a recent report on the US soyfood market from Katahdin Ventures. Principal Joe Jordan recently told FoodNavigator-USA he expects 2 to 3% incremental sales growth for tofu in the foreseeable future, calling it something of a soy market “dark horse”.
“Currently, of course, vegetarian protein is a potential angle, but longer term growth will demand a perspective-shifting strategy that appears to still be on the horizon,” he said. “If Americans ever do figure out tofu, the market could be huge.”
