PopChips makes veggie chips that ‘pop’
PopChips has launched a line of veggie chips using its popped method, to be sold at retailers nationwide in 3-ounce bags. Veggie PopChips blend nine popular vegetables – kale, spinach, tomato, pumpkin, potato, beet, bell pepper, navy bean, and chickpea. They’re available in three flavors: sea salt, hint of olive oil and Tuscan herb.
PopChips has carved itself a successful niche in the snacks market by applying techniques used to make rice cakes to make potato, tortilla and corn chips—not fried or baked, but “popped” using heat and pressure.
But this winter, the firm became among the latest US food and beverage product manufacturers to stop using the marketing term “all-natural” after agreeing to settle a lawsuit alleging it misled consumers by using the controversial term. While the number of “all-natural” lawsuits appear to have peaked in 2012 and dropped off in 2013, legal experts warn it may still be too early to celebrate. (Read more here.)
