CLUB STORES: Sales +2.3% in 2013
Wholesale club store sales rose 2.3% to $98.5bn in 2013 and are expected to grow at an annual rate of 3.5% a year in the next five years.
A membership retail/wholesale hybrid with a warehouse-type environment, club stores are typically around 120,000 square-feet (Sam’s Club, Costco, BJ’s). Costco enjoyed a same-store sales increase of 6% in 2013 and grew to over 450 clubs in the US.
