Lesser Evil on a mission to create snacks that are "not just better for you, but actually good for you"
Finally, with chia still top of mind, we headed to the booth of Lesser Evil, which says it is on a mission to make snacks which are "not just better for you, but actually good for you". Its range includes:
- Chia Pop: Fiber packed, air-popped popcorn with organic chia powder
- Baked Bean Chia Crisps: Baked chips with black bean powder and chia seeds
- Buddha Bowl organic popcorn: Fiber packed, air-popped organic popcorn with organic coconut oil and pink Himalayan salt
- Super 4 snacks: Baked bites with white bean flour, quinoa floor, lentil flour and chia powder
President and CEO Charles Coristine (pictured left next to CFO Andrew Strife) told FoodNavigator-USA: "A lot of the brands here at Expo West oil pop their popcorn whereas with our Buddha Bowl popcorn, we air pop it and lightly spray it with organic coconut oil afterwards."
While the products are non-GMO verified, he said, "It's important to remember that non-GMO is not a health seal, which some people seem to be confusing it for. It's something we care about, but from a nutritional perspective, people should look at the ingredients list and the Nutrition Facts panel and ask, 'Is this snack nourishing?'"
