Further cases of avian influenza have been reported in the US, as the disease increases its spread.

The states of Montana and South Dakota are the latest to be effected by bird flu, which has also been present in Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Minnesota, California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Outbreaks since the beginning of the year have included highly pathogenic strains of H5N8, H5N2, H5N1, and a low pathogenic strain of H7N3.

Last month GlobalMeatNews reported that USDA forecasts for exports of US poultry have fallen almost 3%, in part due to the impact of avian influenza outbreaks.

While in Canada there has been a confirmed outbreak of highly pathogenic strain H5N2 at a turkey farm near Woodstock, Ontario, this week.
