4 – Peanuts contain more protein than any other nut
Packed with 8g protein per 1oz serving (compared with 6g for almonds and pistachios, 5g for cashews, 4g for walnuts, hazelnuts and Brazil nuts, and 2g for pecans and Macademia nuts); peanuts contain more protein than any other nut, weight for weight.
And the current interest in protein – particularly the plant-based variety - presents new opportunities for peanuts to shine, given that they also contain so many other beneficial nutrients, including fiber (2.7g/ounce, or 63% of its 4.3g of carbs), said Peanut Institute program director Pat Kearney.
Just as the conversation about fats and carbs became far more nuanced, with a focus on healthy fats and whole grains, the same is beginning to happen with protein, she said.
“Now there is more of a focus on the types and sources of protein.”
