Clean label… are we at a tipping point?
While recent moves by Nestlé, Panera, Chipotle, Hershey, and Kraft to phase out artificial colors, flavors and preservatives have hit the headlines, the leading supermarkets are also quietly driving this revolution via their private label ranges, said Paul Manning, CEO of colors and flavors expert Sensient Technologies.
And when it comes to the performance and stability of natural colors in particular, “it’s a completely different ballgame than where we were five years ago,” said Manning, while the price of natural colors has also reached “near parity” with synthetics in some applications, he added.
