Breast-feeding, c-sections, and the infant gut: Some surprising trends
One of the most thought-provoking presentations of the conference was delivered by Evolve Biosystems CEO Dr David Kyle, who explained that babies born via c-section, or bottle-fed as opposed to breast-fed, have lower levels of gut bacteria that appear to be beneficial to humans, and are at higher risk of becoming obese, and developing obesity-related diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
