New disease detection method for sausages approved

The AOAC is an independent not-for-profit association specialising in food safety standards. It said the DuPont Bax System could be used to test for listeria in sausages and smoked salmon, as well as spinach and cheese.
“Listeria testing is critical for the food industry – particularly for dairy products, fresh produce and ready-to-eat meats – as an indicator that harmful L. monocytogenes may be present,” said Troy Ayers, Americas sales leader for Diagnostics, DuPont Nutrition & Health. “Accurate, reliable and flexible testing for Listeria is a priority for these industries to quickly detect and help eliminate pathogens that could lead to serious public health concerns.”
The new DuPont Bax System X5, which was introduced in the meat industry in July 2015, can provide DNA amplification and immediate pathogen detection for up to 32 samples at a time.
The X5 is a smaller version of the traditional Bax system.
