AUGUSTIN PALUEL-MARMONT, co-founder, Michel et Augustin: We could be the Chobani of chocolate mousse!
Quirky branding, guerilla marketing tactics, super-charged youtube videos (oh, and some pretty awesome butter cookies) have fueled French brand Michel et Augustin’s US invasion, which began in 2015, and culminated in a nationwide deal with Starbucks earlier this year.
“It’s just the beginning of our story here,” says co-founder Augustin Paluel-Marmont, who moved to Brooklyn last year to lead the US operation – which currently sells shelf-stable bakery products made in France – but is exploring whether the company’s chocolate mousse (a big hit in France), could be produced in the US.
“We are considering producing our amazing chocolate mousse locally in the US, because there is such a huge opportunity – you can find a good chocolate mousse in restaurants, but there is really nothing in the retail market. We could be like the Chobani of chocolate mousse!”
