3 - Millennials make spur-of-the-moment food decisions and have less well-stocked pantries
While Millennials are often on a tight budget, says Hartman Group, they are less likely than older generations to plan meals and shopping trips in advance. They make more spur-of-the-moment food decisions and have less well-stocked pantries.
They also enjoy cooking, although they don't spend as much time on meal preparation, and seek out different, ethnic and artisanal foods.
To cash in, retailers should offer more prepared foods with 'food-forward' characteristics (e.g., ethnic, natural, fresh) as well as a variety of snacks for eating-out (or in-store) occasions, says Hartman Group.
According to Dawn Foods, meanwhile, "Millennials are over 23% more likely than non-Millennials to want to travel abroad as much as possible and 22% more likely to want to visit every continent in their lifetime. This quest for adventure also extends to food."
