Najla’s Specialty Foods’ Kentucky Bourbon Pie offers sweetness of bourbon without the sting
Najla’s Specialty Foods debuted at the Summer Fancy Food Show its Kentucky Bourbon Pie filling, which is made with a quarter cup of 12 year old Kentucky bourbon that allows consumers to enjoy the sweet, smoky taste of bourbon but without buying an expensive bottle. Company founder Najla Aswad described the pie filling as tasting like a sip of bourbon without the sting on your tongue. She said the distinctive aroma of the bourbon blends well with the richness of the nuts, savory salt in the pie crust and familiar taste of sugar, eggs and butter. Because the pie filling is heated during the jarring process, most of the alcohol burns off – making it a product that can be stocked in grocery stores as well as liquor stores and something consumers can give party hosts who do not drink, Aswad said.
