Megatrend 4: Technology offers convenience
With more than 40% of shoppers buying online monthly, ecommerce is a significant threat to traditional grocery stores, according to Acosta. But there is hope. It notes that 60% of tech-savvy consumers say they would shop in store if online services were provided. Specifically, Acosta found, 40% want a mobile app to learn about health and wellness tips, 36% either want to or already view in-store promotions on an app and 41% either want to or already use digital coupons from an app in stores. “The digital offering shoppers would like to see most is an app that provides the ability to order items not available in store and the ability to scan items as the shop so they can bypass checkout,” the report adds.
