Band of Brothers... Sunniva supercharges its coffee with protein and MCTs
Sunniva - an organic 'super coffee' created by brothers Jordan, Jake and Jimmy Decicco - was the audience favorite, but also proved popular with the judging panel on Monday, combining purified coconut oil (for its medium chain triglycerides), and lactose-free grass-fed milk protein isolate with Columbian coffee beans.
That said, while the product (msrp $2.99) had potential, offering a new take on the Bulletproof concept, the branding and packaging needed some work, said Coca-Cola's Jeremy Faa.
While Sunniva had done well in Whole Foods, the focus is doing deals with foodservice companies supplying college campuses, said the founders, who have aimed for a taste profile closer to a Starbucks frappuccino than a cold brew coffee. "We're not another cold brew."
