In 2005, 67% of Americans described the supermarket as their ‘primary’ source of groceries, said the report. In 2017, this dropped to just 47% as shoppers increasingly visited less traditional channels, from online stores to limited assortment stores, c-stores, natural & organic stores and ethnic food stores. Meanwhile, 8% of shoppers said they did not have a primary store.
